Lickable Wallpaper for Nursery Walls...

I was commissioned by my cousin to paint flowers on the wall of their new nursery. Easy right? After plotting out the design, tracing out twenty daisies, leaves and swirly dos I began to paint. I figured I would use acrylics because it is a child's room and you know they lick and touch everything. They also dry quicker, etc, etc.
Well I HATE them! I longed to use my blend able, smooth and creamy oils. I fought the wall texture and fought with the paints on one flower for about an hour trying to blend and shade and highlight!! I finally gave in, loosened up and it worked out. Next work day should go by smoother!!! (hopefully)

Here are the two flowers I fought with. The smaller one is almost there. I will tackle the bigger flower next time!!!

Better images of work and me working soon!!!

Dogs

In a recent interview I did for Woodward magazine I was asked " Have you ever had a bad expereince with a dog?" I laughed at the question and imediately said no. I really couldn't think of a bad experience I had with any animal. I thought about this question again today and remembered this picture. This old man lived next door to my grandparents. I remember I would look forward to taking a walk with him and his dog. It wasn't a bad experience at all. I just really wish I could remember the dogs name. :(

Lyric Show at 323 East Gallery!!

I absolutely can not wait for this show to open. Not only is it at the gallery I work at but it's also curated by Glenn Barr, an amazing Detroit artist!
For one whole month I will be surrounded by works of art done by some of my favorite artists. Brandi Milne & Kathie Olivias are just the tip of the iceberg of fabulousness!!! :)

ice daggers and motivation....

I went to walk the pup this morning and I spotted this ginormous icicle on the edge of my house! I couldn't believe it.

As I walked down the front steps I spotted a whole row of them!!

Mother Nature also decided to dump about 6 more inches on us this weekend. Thankfully I made it home from my errands on Saturday just as the first flakes started to fall.

The other day my good artist friend, Audrey sent me a wonderful link to this helpful artist site called, ARTONOMY. It has really made me think even more about how much work it takes to be a successful artist. The best thing is the creator speaks to us unsavy computer users so I even understand! I signed up for her daily newsletters and they really have helped me stay on track and set goals. Hopefully I can get my self together to be able to promote and successfully sell my work by my July show!!
