Black as the night...

On my morning walks with my dog I have been spotting some gorgeous black and deep purple flowers in gardens. I am instantly in love. Maybe next year I can have a whole garden of these colored flowers.

Beauty

More inspiring photos of the gorgeous Amanda Seyfried.

.
I want to take photos in designer clothing and holding baby animals... I'd be in heaven.

Amanda Louise Spayd

I have started to follow Amanda only a few months ago and I have grown to become such a fan. Her hard work inspires me. Each creature is always better than the one before. Looking at her work always makes me excited to go back into the studio and work on my own.

Here is one of her newest pieces. I really wish i could sneak a peek at her processes and techniques!!! Even just a conversation over coffee would be amazing..

This creature is called, Epitaph. I am in love. To view more of Amandas work visit her blog here.

Poison Plants

Beautiful Monstrosities has Victorian themes as well as themes of poison and the macabre. How perfect that the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, San Fran will be putting on a Wiked Plants exhibition. I wish I could go!!!

If you are as intrigued by wiked plants as I am and are a fan of fantasy you should pick up this book, The Poison Diaries.

Sneaky Peek..

Here are a few images of some work in progress for Beautiful Monstrosities. I still have ways to go but it's been getting really exciting..

This is a fawn head I am doing that is inspired by the Bradford Sweets Poisoning. Since sugar was so expensive candy makers would often use "daft", made sometimes of limestone or plaster of paris, mixed with sugar, they accidentally used arsenic this time and poisoned over 200 people with their tainted Humbugs.

Here are a couple of the ghosties I made to go along with one of Audrey's paintings.

Here are two bunny busts.

Show Dress

SO the intense countdown to "Beautiful Monstrosities" has offically begun. While I am quickly trying to catch up to my show partner, Audrey Pongracz, I have let my thoughts drift from sewing ghosts and giant maggot bodies to "What am I going to wear?".
Our show has a very strong theme. I can't go walking in there in my Target sundress and heels and expect to fit in with my own art.
SO.. through some research and happy accidents on Tumblr I have found the pefect dress. Sadly the dresses I have found to be perfect are all the way in Japan. But thankfully I know a very talented dressmaker who will be able to whip up this beauty just for me. :)

Here is the dress in full. Since we were crazy and decided to have our show in the heart of summer I will be having the dress made with short sleeves. This dress is shown with a petticoat underneath. A petticoat is a bit much for me so I will opt out, and just let the skirt fall as it will like. :)

Here's a detail shot of the neck. *sigh* I swear I should have been born in 1890.

Another detail of the skirt.

I can't wait!!!
