i can crochet too...kind of

Here is a circle scarf i crocheted this weekend for my mothers birthday. I forgot that she wanted one so I had to stop mid sculpting and run to JoAnnes for some yarn. :/
Sadly I was rushing and it ended up having this twist in it that is kind of working but I'm still not sure. I think I'll let her decide.

Here is a somewhat better picture of the color. You can wear it around your neck and up like a hood. That's what she wanted!!!

It was very calming to crochet again. The repetitive motion of the hook and yarn making these knots that somehow make one continuous strand of yarn into something you can wear. It's almost magical. I have a few skeins laying around... I should put them to use.

Winter Wonderland

Woke up to more snow this morning. It doesn't make me mad, just Thankfull that it's a Saturday and I have no place to be for the next two days. Time to brew some peppermint tea, put the music on and get my hands moving in the studio.

My little muffin, Missy, playing in the new fallen snow. She doesn't like it too much.

Howl

If you could only see the beast you've made of me
I held it in but now it seems you've set it running free
Screaming in the dark, I howl when we're apart
drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart

My fingers claw your skin, try to tear my way in
You are the moon that breaks the night for which I have to howl
My fingers claw your skin, try to tear my way in
You are the moon that breaks the night for which I have to

Howl, howl
Howl, howl

Now there's no holding back, I'm making to attack
My blood is singing with your voice, I want to pour it out
The saints can't help me now, the ropes have been unbound
I hunt for you with bloody feet across the hollow ground

like some child possessed, the beast howls in my veins
I want to find you tear and all your tenderness

And howl, howl
Howl, howl

Be careful of the curse that falls on your lovers
Starts so soft and sweet and turns them to hunters
Hunters, hunters, hunters
Hunters, hunters, hunters

The fabric of your flesh, thin as a wedding dress
Until I wrap myself inside your arms I cannot rest
The saints can't help me now, the ropes have been unbound
I hunt for you with bloodied feet across the hollow ground

And howl

Be careful of the curse that falls on your lovers
Starts so soft and sweet and turns them to hunters

If you could only see the beast you've made of me
I held it in but now it seems you've set it running free
The saints can't help me now, the ropes have been unbound
I hunt for you with bloody feet across the hollow ground
Drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart

progress

Basically to start one of my sculptures I use a foam form that I purchase from a taxidermy supply company. I could probably build my own form, but the solid hard foam aloows me a great sturdy base to begin from. The forms are also very realistic and allow me to make a creature that looks like an animal we recognize but with my own artistic touches.
I sculpt over the form with Magic Sculpt. Magic Sculpt is a two part resin epoxy clay that allows me the freedom to work with it like a water based clay but I don't have to bake it. When I was using sculpy I found it cracked very easily.
I also use glass eyes I purchase. The eyes for this certain creature are Bass fish eyes. I tend to mix and matchwith the animals to get the effct I'd like.
Once this clay dries over night I will be able to start the painting process.

I've missed you

Today will finally be my first day in the studio for 2011!!
I did some major research yesterday on ideas and I feel really great that I now have a true direction for my upcoming show in July.
In the pictures above you will see my second batch of art supplies have arrived. Some nice soft colored wool. This will be made into wigs for my creatures. You will also see a picture of pieces that I had abandoned and will now return too with new energy. Lastly is just a picture of part of the studio where I do most of my sculpting and painting.

art supplies

Silk ribbons have arrived! Fist batch of art supplies for the new year. I need to compare these to the synthetic ribbons I usually use in my work. I'd like to see if they are worth the extra dollars and cents.

My goal is to find the ribbons they use in the period films to tie back hair. They always look so lush, silky and soft. Next shipments will be wool, and bird forms. I will be revisiting the studio this weekend after a much too long absence. I will keep the updates flying in.

time...

I wish I had more time to curl up and read a book,
time to sit and sip a mocha at Barnes and Noble,
time to work a full time job, a part time job and be able to find the energy to be in the studio.
I wish I had more time for myself and friends and family.
time to breathe.

We get so caught up in everyday rushing and running and chasing our such important errands and jobs. It'd be so much easier if we all could slow down.

slow down and watch the leaves change color,
leaves fall and crunch under you feet,
snow silently falling, covering everything in a white blanket
green buds poking through the spring soil, and feel the heat of the summer suns rays..

Interviews

Today I had a video interview about life from going to art school to where I am now. They are always so nervewraking, but according to the filmcrew & interviewers, I did great. During these interviews I always feel like a weight is lifted from me. It's great to spill out your thoughts and ideas. It also made me realize how far I really have come in my art career. Sadly I have no pictures yet, but once I do I will post them.

Inspiration....

This is exactly how I would love my next batch of work to look. Soft, sexy, & spooky. I ordered some fantastic looking silk ribbon yesterday and some softer colored wool. Let's hope they look as good as they do online, in person. I need to get to work. Ideas have been popping in my mind right and left, and with no outlet they just vanish as quickly as they appear.

New Years Resolutions...

Sadly I have not kept up on this blog!! One of my few new years resolutions for 2011 is to promote myself more. I opened this blog for just that and keeping up with it seems to be placed in the back of my mind, if at all. I just purchased a new pink lap top that I can carry with myself everywhere so hopefully the ease of always having a computer will help keep this blog fresh and updated.

Coming up this year... Beautiful Monstrocities. A two lady show featuring myself and the amazing Audrey Pongracz. Sadly while Audrey is busy producing painting after painting, my own work is always last on my to do list. Managing a art gallery as well as a job teaching fitness classes runs me down and coming home to get right back into the studio seems tough to do. But another of my few resolutions was to make making art a large priority in my life.

Well my followers, let's hope I stick with these resolutions. If I do... you'll be in for real treat.
