I've missed you

Today will finally be my first day in the studio for 2011!!
I did some major research yesterday on ideas and I feel really great that I now have a true direction for my upcoming show in July.
In the pictures above you will see my second batch of art supplies have arrived. Some nice soft colored wool. This will be made into wigs for my creatures. You will also see a picture of pieces that I had abandoned and will now return too with new energy. Lastly is just a picture of part of the studio where I do most of my sculpting and painting.

art supplies

Silk ribbons have arrived! Fist batch of art supplies for the new year. I need to compare these to the synthetic ribbons I usually use in my work. I'd like to see if they are worth the extra dollars and cents.

My goal is to find the ribbons they use in the period films to tie back hair. They always look so lush, silky and soft. Next shipments will be wool, and bird forms. I will be revisiting the studio this weekend after a much too long absence. I will keep the updates flying in.

time...

I wish I had more time to curl up and read a book,
time to sit and sip a mocha at Barnes and Noble,
time to work a full time job, a part time job and be able to find the energy to be in the studio.
I wish I had more time for myself and friends and family.
time to breathe.

We get so caught up in everyday rushing and running and chasing our such important errands and jobs. It'd be so much easier if we all could slow down.

slow down and watch the leaves change color,
leaves fall and crunch under you feet,
snow silently falling, covering everything in a white blanket
green buds poking through the spring soil, and feel the heat of the summer suns rays..

Interviews

Today I had a video interview about life from going to art school to where I am now. They are always so nervewraking, but according to the filmcrew & interviewers, I did great. During these interviews I always feel like a weight is lifted from me. It's great to spill out your thoughts and ideas. It also made me realize how far I really have come in my art career. Sadly I have no pictures yet, but once I do I will post them.

Inspiration....

This is exactly how I would love my next batch of work to look. Soft, sexy, & spooky. I ordered some fantastic looking silk ribbon yesterday and some softer colored wool. Let's hope they look as good as they do online, in person. I need to get to work. Ideas have been popping in my mind right and left, and with no outlet they just vanish as quickly as they appear.

New Years Resolutions...

Sadly I have not kept up on this blog!! One of my few new years resolutions for 2011 is to promote myself more. I opened this blog for just that and keeping up with it seems to be placed in the back of my mind, if at all. I just purchased a new pink lap top that I can carry with myself everywhere so hopefully the ease of always having a computer will help keep this blog fresh and updated.

Coming up this year... Beautiful Monstrocities. A two lady show featuring myself and the amazing Audrey Pongracz. Sadly while Audrey is busy producing painting after painting, my own work is always last on my to do list. Managing a art gallery as well as a job teaching fitness classes runs me down and coming home to get right back into the studio seems tough to do. But another of my few resolutions was to make making art a large priority in my life.

Well my followers, let's hope I stick with these resolutions. If I do... you'll be in for real treat.

Halloween

Yesterday was Halloween. While I was busy getting myself excited, carving Jack-o-Lanterns, making pumpkin seeds, putting my halloween hat on I couldn't help but remember when my brother and sister and I were young and we would go trick or treating with our dad. It was the best thing ever. We'd go out in the cold, fill up our pillowcase and make a stop home where our mom would have hot coco and pot pies waiting.
This Halloween wasn't like that. With the halloween music playing, candles lit I waited. A few kids at a time would come and claim their candy, but it still didn't feel the same. When I drove home to my house the caravans from Detroit where dropping off their loads of kids still. Maybe I will stay at my own house next year and it will feel much more like Halloween with dozens of kids shouting Trick-or-Treat before they run back to their safe vans and cars or maybe once again I'll travel to the suburbs of Michigan where trick or treating is ruined by the countless dark porches and Trunk - or- Treats that are hosted by schools and churches nights before the real thing even happens. These are times when I wish I could go back in time, just to relive my childhood again in bits and pieces.
